Welcome to Carers in Cancer, a support group run by trained Volunteers
Established in 2008, we are a small self help support group set up to provide individual help to carers looking after someone with cancer.
Our aim is to offer support only when asked-we don't tell you or advise you how to be a carer or give any medical advice. Our knowledge comes from experienced ex- carers or from people who can relate to carers issues.
Looking after someone with cancer can be very tiring and leaves little or no time for yourself. You may feel overwhelmed by unpredictable events and the feeling that nobody understands what it is really like caring for someone.

National Carer Services
Charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Crossroads Care, Marie Curie and Age UK, these are large and well established organizations with established forms of support to you as a carer. |

Financial support for carers
Looking after someone with cancer can be very expensive, e.g constant hospital visits, special diets and maybe special equipment for your home to help the person with cancer. Claiming carers allowance isn't easy and it is a means tested benefit which means if you have savings or other assets you may not qualify |

Carers support groups
There are many carer support groups in Lancashire-some offer a drop in center or training. We offer support just for carers looking after someone with cancer. Why? Our group is made up of previous carers who have personal experience of what supporting someone with cancer involves. |

The NHS does not provide direct carer services, but it can be useful to access other services such as occupational therapy, social services, community support services etc

The carer's journey is far different from the patient. Each carer will have an individual experience but share some common problems!
"Being a carer made me realize how hard it can be both physically and emotionally"
"Carers can often feel undervalued by Health Care Professionals" |
