Carers who Care
A Positive Step
Home

Welcome to your Cancer Carers Site

Faced with uncertainty!many of our group are either current or ex carers. We are not the experts, but we have been on the journey you are taking or have taken, this is not just another web site full of information or a place to get leaflets, we care because it can be a lonely place, with sometimes no help.
We truly believe that by sharing each others experience and supporting each other through this very hard time, we may be able to support you and give helpful tips as you carry out your caring role. Why carers in cancer? we know that all carers have special roles to carry out, but caring for someone with cancer brings its own problems associated with this disease.

We will also discuss the worst case, of Dying with the illness itself, bereavement and practical and emotional issues that follow.

Caring means many things to many people, attitudes by health organisations are changing, but very slowly. Caring for children with cancer brings not only a huge burden to the parents but an emotional journey full of guilt, a sense of failure and sometimes why?
Dealing with older people who may even have other illnesses as well as cancer, how do you care for someone who has no family.
What about people with a mental illness, how do we make them understand what is happening.
So many questions and so few answers, bringing carers together to share such valuable experiences has been a wish for many years.

This huge wealth of human experience should be shared, not just between carers but to health care professionals, nurses, doctors so we can all learn to understand what it really means to look after someone 24/7 with cancer and provide a positive attitude to those who care for someone. Thankfully not every one dies from cancer, but what happens to you as an ex carer? Returning back to work or facing life changing decisions. The experience, even positive, may change the way you view life for ever, your experience is very valuable and if you wish to help another carer through their journey, you are at the right place.
