Carers who Care
A Positive Step
Home      About us
We get asked about Carers in Cancer and who we are?
Our aim is very simple, we want to help carers to help themselves by supporting each other, not telling anyone how to care, but to listen to each other, respecting views, understanding anger and frustration that comes with caring for someone.

Its one of the hardest jobs in the world, we know! we have been there before, We cannot explain the journey in one sentence, Some of us have laughed and cried together. If you have never been a carer its hard to understand how we feel! Of course our friend or family member is going through a range of emotions themselves and supporting someone we love during this time puts pressures on us that cannot be measured. Cancer in itself is a horrible disease, uncertainties, emotions and one big roller coasta ride, but hopefully we come out the other end, with our love ones who get over cancer. But sometimes it doesn't work, we watch our loved ones go through terrible pain, and sometimes we even begin to grieve almost from the outset, but staying positive is hard you say, but you must try as hard as you can.

If our loved one dies, its the most devastating event of our lives. We are unprepared, apart from sadness, and all the questions, why her/him, the games over, nothing left now but silence. We do survive, the pain of loss never leaves us, "I thought my life had ended but I decided after many years to help someone else who may need support from another who knows!" That why carers live on, we get stronger and become stronger especially for change. By helping each other, listening, and caring ourselves we will make a difference. We try not to shy away from talking about dying or death in our group and on this web site, we believe it is important and should not be kept underground and never talked about. Its strange how we talk about older people who die as "Having a good innings" or she or he did well! Well young people die of Cancer as well as older people, it does not choose who to affect, but carers live on with the grief and the memories of supporting our loved one in terrible circumstances.

To those who suffer other diseases or die through other means, of course its just as painful, and carers alike become affected, but cancer doesn't just kill the person but may destroy the person as well!
